Man accused of killing step-father after wreck, surrenders
A Vidor man, who was accused of shooting and killing his former step-father Friday, April 5 in Vidor, voluntarily surrendered to police Tuesday, April 10, and has been since released on a $50,000 bond.
Kelly Gene Mtchell, 42, turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest for murder charges. The warrant was issued April 9, by Justice of the Peace David Peck, Pct. 1.
Rodger Dale Allen, was accused of intentionally wrecking his truck into Mitchell’s truck last Friday. A probable cause affidavit stated that after the collision, Allen began to run toward Mitchell’s truck with a “crazed” look on his face, and screamed “I am going to kill you now” before calling Mitchell a profane word, Mitchell told officers in a voluntary statement.
Mitchell reportedly fired an AR15 rifle at Allen until “Rodger stopped coming.”
The case will probably go before a grand jury, who will decide if Mitchell’s actions were justified, or if he will be indicted on charges.
