Vidor smoke shop busted in undercover sting

Over Over the past several months, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division has received numerous complaints from concerned citizens about the A-1 Smoke Shop in the 500 block of N. Main St., in Vidor. The complaints were against the store selling synthetic marijuana, also known as “KUSH”.

OCSO narcotics agents investigators conducted an undercover operation and were able to purchase the “KUSH” products from the smoke shop. The synthetic marijuana that was purchased from the location was submitted to the Jefferson County Crime Lab, where ingredients were tested and showed a positive result as to containing illegal ingredients.

Tuesday, June 12, narcotics agents made a visit to the smoke shop for a routine tobacco inspection. Investigators located over six pounds of the synthetic marijuana inside the store. The substances were seized and the two store clerks were arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance.

The clerks have been identified as Mohammad Hammad-Kahn, 19, and Mohamed Hamza Khan, 18, both of Beaumont. Both men were transported to the Orange County Correctional Facility, where bond was set at $10,000 each.

The packages of “KUSH” sells for $15 - $20 each, depending on the brand. There were a total of 297 packages seized from the A-1 Smoke Shop.

The OCSO will continue to actively pursue store owners who fail to comply with the state law, and distribute bath salts or synthetic marijuana. Other arrests may still be pending as a result of this undercover operation.
