Eight Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD students were invited to compete in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics in Houston’s George R Brown Convention Center, on July 27. American and World records were broken by these students, resulting in them bringing home 16 gold medals and one silver.

LCM CISD teens placing in the competition includes Victor Davila and Hunter Angelo of Little Cypress Junior High; Dawson Denman, who attends Mauriceville Middle School, and Maygan Crosslin, Kallye Harris, Troy Angelo, Blythe Ferguson, and Abi Gail Davis, all of LCM High School. This same group has been invited to participate in a national meet in Las Vegas in November.

Maygan Crosslin, who graduated from LCM in May, set American and World records in the 165-pound weight class in all three events in the 18-19 year old division. Her squat was 391.3 pounds, the bench press 237 pound, and a dead lift of 363.8 pounds for a record total of 992.1 pounds. Maygan also received special recognition for going 12 for 12, something the event organizers have only seen 5 other time in the last 22 years. This means that not only did she successfully complete the three required lifts in each event; she also got an additional lift per event to try to break the standing record, which she did in all three.

Blythe Ferguson holds both American and World records for AAU in squat, bench, dead lift and for total in the 220-pound weight class for 14 and 15 year olds. Her totals in, squat - 374.8 pounds, bench - 214.9 pounds, and dead lift - 352.7 pounds produced a record total 926 pounds.

Kallye Harris, in the 123-pound weight class of 14 and 15 year olds had a meet total of 665 pounds. Her squat was 242 pounds, the bench 126 pounds, and her deadlift 294 pounds.

Abi Gail Davis broke American and World records with 302 pounds in squat, 176 pounds in bench press, and 221 pounds in dead lift, for a total of 699 pounds in the 14 to 15 year-olds.

Victor Davila, in the 11 to 13 division, set a World record in both squat and dead lift with 143.3 and 170.9 pounds respectively.

Dawson Denman, in the 88-pound class of 12 and 13 year olds posted a squat of 164.3 pounds, bench 88.2 pounds, and a deadlift of 176.4 pounds for a total of 402.3 pounds.

Troy Angelo in the 181-pound class of 16 and 17 year olds, squatted 440.9 pounds, bench pressed 242.5 pounds, and had a World Record dead lift of 551.2 pounds for a total of 1,215.5 pounds. Troy Angelo won the deadlift with a World record of 556.5 pounds.

Hunter Angelo won silver in the 88-pound, 12 and 13-year class with a squat of 115.7 pounds, a bench of 71.7 pounds, and a deadlift of 148.8 pounds for a total of 336.2 pounds.
