The Bridge City Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire about 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the 3300 block of Ancar Street in the Victory Gardens addition.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen in one side of the duplex. The fire was quickly extinguished, but not before one side of the duplex received moderate damage while the other side suffered from smoke damage. The fire is still under investigation.

One person was at the residence at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported. Power was cut-off on the side of the duplex where the fire damage occurred and the resident was referred to the American Red Cross for assistance, according to Brent Morris, fire chief of BCVFD.
