A Beaumont man was killed about 5 a.m. Friday as the result of a wreck which occurred on Highway 62.

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Robert Manning, 28, of Orange, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound when he veered into oncoming traffic. The pickup struck a 2003 Chrysler passenger vehicle head-on which was traveling in the northbound lane. Timothy Owens, 38, of Beaumont died at the scene.

Manning was transferred to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. He is listed in critical condition.

The crash is still under investigation and Troopers are working to determine the reason why Manning veered into oncoming traffic.
