Melba Rose Meaux Duhon, 91, of West Orange, died Saturday, Aug. 11, at her daughter's home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Orange, with the the Rev. Tom Phelan serving as celebrant. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Serving as pallbearers will be Edward Smith, Wade Smith, Joseph Alford, Sam Watters, Casey Smith, Nick Lomonte, and E.J. Duhon.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, with Deacon Eddie Blankenstein leading.
Born in Gueydan, Louisiana, on June 9, 1921, she was the daughter of Sosthene and Ertha (Broussard) Meaux. She was a homemaker and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Duhon was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Louis Duhon; sister, Lena Vincent; and brother, J.D. Meaux.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Edward Smith of Orange, Charlotte and Joe Alford of West Orange; grandchildren, Edward L. Smith and his wife, Kathy, Wade Smith and his wife, Julie, Laura Watters and her husband, Sam, Joseph Alford, all of Orange; great grandchildren, Casey, Shelby, Colton, Chloe, Cade, and Reece Smith and Ronan Watters, all of Orange.
The family wishes to acknowledge, with grateful appreciation, Mrs. Duhon's care givers, Mozzell Phillips and Frances Sanchez for their love and dedication to her care, and also Kathy Gohlke with Harbor Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4300 Meeks Dr., Orange, Texas 77632.
