Katherine Juanita Sonier Johnson, 66, of Buna, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont after a short illness. Born on Dec. 13, 1945 in Orange, to her parents, Charles N. “Buck” Sonier and Dolly Juanita (Carpenter) Sonier, she was a lifelong resident of Orange and she lived in Buna for the last ten years.

Kathy worked as a Bookkeeper and Data Processor in the Banking Industry, she attended the Pinehurst United Pentecostal Church in Pinehurst and she then became a member of the Buna United Pentecostal Church in Buna where she taught Sunday school. She was known as Granny Kathy to many of the young people that knew her and she will be remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend to many.

Kathy is preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Sonier; her maternal grandparents, Doug Carpenter and Dolly Milstead and her paternal grandparents, Rufus and Isabell Sonier.

Those who will most cherish her memory are her daughter, Katy Wagstaff and husband, Randy of Buna; her son, Jeff Johnson and wife, Paula of Orangefield; her father, Charles “Buck” Sonier of Atlanta, TX; her sister, Charlsie Restelle and husband, Michael of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Aron Johnson, Adam Johnson, Kayla Wagstaff, Trent Wagstaff, Tonya Vernon and A. J. Vernon and wife, Becky; her niece, Monica Bourgeois of Atlanta; her nephew, Charles Restelle and companion, Toby Nichols of Atlanta, and her great granddaughter, Randi Ray. Kathy is also survived by numerous extended family.

Services of home going for Kathy will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Pinehurst United Pentecostal Church in Pinehurst with the Rev. W. W. “Bill” Smith, pastor of the Pinehurst Church, and the Rev. Richard L. Dykes, pastor of the Buna Church, officiating. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow services at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

A gathering of family and friends for a time of reflection will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Buna United Pentecostal Church, 116 County Road 833 at Highway 96, just one mile North of Buna.

Honoring Kathy as pallbearers are Jeff Johnson, Aron Johnson, Adam Johnson, Trent Wagstaff, Randy Wagstaff and Bobby Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles Restelle and Mike Restelle.
