The West Orange-Stark Mustangs did what they do best, shut down offenses and put points on the board. The famed “Chain Gang” defense held the Jasper Bulldogs scoreless for three straight quarters in a 17-7 victory at Dan R. Hooks Stadium on Friday night.

Mustang quarterback Jimmy Salter connected with receiver J’Marcus Rhodes for two touch downs in the first half. The duo struck early with a 49-yard touchdown pass with 11:26 on the clock in the first quarter. Salter hit Rhodes again from 14 yards out to score with 8:19 left in the half. Rodikson Cano hit for the PAT’s.

Cano also split the crossbars for a 22 yard field goal in the third quarter.

The ‘Chain Gang’ defense forced four Bulldog fumbles, recovering two and holding Jasper to 222 total yards in the non district contest. Jasper’s only score came with just 58 seconds left in the game falling on a Mustang fumble in the end zone. The kick was good. The Bulldogs narrowly missed becoming the third team the Mustangs have shut out so far this season.

The Mustangs collected 259 total yards rushing, 223 of that in the air.
