Bridge City Cardinals, WOS Mustangs post Dist. 21-3A wins

The Bridge City Cardinals overcame a sluggish first half to defeat the Buna Cougars 28-24 in the Dist. 21-3A season opener Friday night. Bridge City was down 24-6 at the half. Cardinal running back Ashton Hunter rushed for 219 yards on 19 carries, including a 39-yard fourth quarter touchdown to sealed the deal for Bridge City.

Bridge City quarterback Daniel Faulk went to Hunter in the second quarter for a 45 yard touch down pass.

Meanwhile, the West Orange-Stark Mustangs opened district action by pummeling the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns, 44-0. The notorious Mustang "Chain Gang' defense intercepted three passes for the fourth shutout this season.

The Mustangs offense collected 21 first downs in their fifth straight victory in an undefeated season.

The Orangefield Bobcats fell to Silsbee 48-7. In Dist. 20-4A the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears lost to Livingston 42-35. The Vidor Pirates were defeated by the Nederland Bulldogs 20-13.
