Alton James Borel, Sr., 87, of Port Arthur, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, at Christus St. Mary Hospital, Port Arthur. He was born on Aug. 17, 1925 to Jacque Joseph and Antoinette Borel in New Iberia, La. Mr. Borel had served in the Army air Corp and was employed by DuPont in Orange, for 38 years.

His survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Borel, of 68 years, children Alton Borel Jr and wife Linda of Taylor Landing; John Borel and wife Cathie of New Port, Minn; Alice Moore and husband Jerry of Port Neches; Ann Duchamp and husband Glynn of Port Arthur; Gail Freeman and husband Gary of Nederland; Judy Nesbitt of Nederland. Other survivors include 11 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

A gathering of his family and friends will be held on Sunday, Jan. 6, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a vigil at 6:00 p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur. The family will also receive friends Monday Jan. 7, from 10:00 a.m. until noon, with a procession leaving at 12:30 p.m. for the mass at 1:00 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7, at St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur, with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
