Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School’s “Team Force,” Special Olympics team, got a nice gift from the Kiwanis Club of Orange just before the Christmas break. The Kiwanis gave the students a check for $832 to sponsor the team’s participation in “Walk Across Texas,” which is hosted by the Texas Special Olympics and AgriLife Extension.

The goal is to get the students moving to get in shape and raise funds for Special Olympics and the school’s Life Skills program. Each team is made up of eight students who pledge to walk at least 13 miles a week for eight weeks. According to Life Skills teacher Terrie Parker, there are enough students to field two teams, so individuals or organizations may still participate by sponsoring an additional team for $832 or an individual student for $104.

For additional information, or to sponsor the team or an individual student, contact Terrie Parker at 886-5821.
