Friday, Feb 15, at approximately 5:30 pm, Detectives from the Orange Police Department discovered the body of a white female in Newton County. The body is believed to be that of 41 year old Tami Higginbotham, of Vinton, who was reported missing Feb. 9. Police said there were certain features on the body that matched descriptions of the missing woman.

The body was found north of Mauriceville in a heavily wooded, hunting lease area, and has been transported to the Jefferson County Morgue for an autopsy. Officers from Orange, Newton and Jasper Counties investigated the crime scene, and are working the case.

Family members of Higginbotham told authorities that she had gone to Orange to meet Joshua Latham to see about buying a cell phone. Latham was arrested Feb. 14 in Tennessee.
