Wilfrid Bill Brian Martin, 83, of Beaumont, died Feb. 14, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. He was born on Dec. 14, 1929, in New Bedford, Ma. Bill was the youngest of five children having been raised by a single parent. His father died when he was three years of age.

Bill served in the United States Navy for four years and did a tour in the Korean War. While stationed in Orange, Bill met and married Vel, his wife of 63 years. While working for Gulf States Utilities and Reliance Electric, Bill pursued a side business of building fall-out shelters and swimming pools. For 27 years, Bill built homes and apartments, and the final eight years he bought and sold land.

He was a good family man who was always active in church, school, community, and professional activities. Bill was active in Trinity United Methodist Church, PTA, President of French High School Booster Club, organized a Sea Scout unit, coached little league, was a YMBL board member, member of Key Men, Masonic Lodge 1165, and El Mina Shriners.

Bill was an avid fisherman and wild game observer. He loved his ranch near Wimberley, the beach and cookouts, however the love of his life were his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Vel; son, Brett Martin of Beaumont; daughter, Shelia Bower and her husband, Lennox, of Dallas; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert Martin of Jacksonville, Fl.

A gathering of Mr. Martin's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb., 17, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Avenue, Beaumont.

His memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, Feb. 18, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Beaumont.
