An Orange woman accidentally shot herself in the leg while removing groceries from her vehicle Tuesday, Feb. 26. Madison Bass, 17, told officer Joshua Dempsey that she was unloading groceries from the family car.

She stated that when she pulled some bags from the back seat, a black camera case with two handguns in it fell to the ground. As the case fell, a .25 caliber Titan handgun accidentally discharged and struck Bass in the right leg between her ankle and knee.

Bass was transported to a Beaumont hospital, where she had a bullet fragment removed. She is expected to recover completely.

The two handguns and ammunition were seized for safe keeping.
