Graveside services for Verna Newman, 81, of Jasper will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, at Sanders Cemetery in Jasper. Visitation will be from 5:00. – 8:00 P.M. on Monday, March 18, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home.

Verna died at her home Saturday, March 16. A native and life long resident of Jasper, she was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church. She was a 1949 graduate of Jasper High School, and a loving wife and Mother who worked many years as an inspector in the Poultry Industry. A friend to everyone, her favorite activities were playing with her grand and great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, William David Newman.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, William “Bill” Newman, son Mitchel Newman and wife Debbie of Jasper, daughter Vickie Toal and husband Tom of Orange, brother-in-law Buddy Newman of Jasper, grandchildren, Prissy Leonard, Willie “Bubba” Newman, Nella Newman Hines, Kim Toal, and great grandchildren Fancy Hollis, Lacy Hollis, Samantha Moake and Katie Newman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakes Area Hospice, 254 Ethel St., Jasper, Texas 75951.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
