James Thomas Smith, 64, of Vidor, died Sunday, April 28, at Harbor Hospice House, Beaumont. He was born on Nov. 4, 1948, in Shreveport, La., to Blanche Burkhalter Haynes Smith and Henry Smith. James was a United States Army veteran and retired truck driver with Simmons Logging.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Smith; children; Donna Lagaza of Vidor, Arthur Pender, Jr. of Kountze, Danny Pender of Saratoga, and Darrell Payne of Vidor; 13 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; mother -in-law, Evalena Laird Jones of Vidor; brother, Henry Earl Smith of Leesville, La; sister, Jane Gore of Silsbee; and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of Mr. Smith's family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, at Broussard's, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Broussard's, with interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
