Friday, May 17, deputies at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Correctional Facility discovered an inmate, 51 year old Robert William Leviness, of Beaumont, unconscious in a cell. Deputies and medical staff from the jail attempted CPR on Leviness.

Acadian Ambulance Service responded to the scene, and pronounced deceased. Jistice of the Peace, Ransom Jones pronounced the death. It appears that Leviness died as a result of self-induced strangulation.

The investigation is ongoing, and results from the autopsy are pending. Leviness had been booked into the jail under the allegation of family violence by Beaumont PD, earlier in the day.
