A surprise 70th birthday party was held for Judge Pete Runnels, Mayor of Pinehurst, at the Wednesday Lunch Bunch gathering at Robert’s restaurant last week.

County Judge Carl Thibodeaux presented Pete Runnels with an “Elect Pete Runnels for County Judge” ball cap he distributed when he ran against Thibodeaux for the county judge seat.

Everyone had fun at Runnels’ expense. Wilson Roberts presented the Mayor with a Senior Citizens apron. Runnels is the grandfather of the Memorial Day Senior Citizens Picnic. He created the event when he previously served as Mayor of Pinehurst.

V.J. Roberts built a nice plaque for the Mayor’s desk. A large cake was made by Donna Scales and presented to the large group. Roy Dunn told early stories.
