A surprise 70th birthday party was held for Judge Pete Runnels, Mayor of Pinehurst, at the Wednesday Lunch Bunch gathering at Robert’s restaurant last week.

Judge Carl Thibodeaux present Runnels with a “Pete Runnels for County Judge” cap that Runnels passed out while running for the county judge seat. Thibodeaux won that election.

Everyone had fun at Runnels’ expense. Wilson Roberts presented the Mayor with a Senior Citizens apron. Runnels is the grandfather of the Memorial Day Senior Citizens Picnic. He created the event when he previously served as Mayor of Pinehurst.

V.J. Roberts built a nice plaque for the Mayor’s desk. A large cake was made by Donna Scales and presented to the large group. Roy Dunn told early stories.
