Shirley Smith, 77, of Bridge City, passed away Saturday, July 13. She was born on Dec. 26, 1935 in Shelby County. She was a church secretary at Winfree Baptist Church for 35 years.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Winfree Baptist Church in Orange. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the church.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Henry Smith; and four sons, Jerry Smith and wife Vicki of New Braunfels, Jerald Smith and wife Gina of Bridge City, Jimmy Smith and wife Katherine of Bridge City, and Jeff Smith and wife Lisa of Bridge City; grandchildren, Jennifer Whitehead and husband Robert, Jared Porter, Lauren Knight and husband Cody, Hannah Lucia and husband Curt, Jessica Melancon and husband Jarred, Kasey Smith, Gabrielle Smith, Colin Smith, Justin Smith, Kirby Shepherd, Ellyn Shepherd, and Breanna Smith.

Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Cole Whitehead, Mia Whitehead, Jason Melancon, Jaxon Melancon, Anna Knight, Avery Knight, and Jonah Knight; brothers, Walt Carrico and wife Mary of Magnolia, and Coral (Butch) Carrico and wife Janie of Chandler; sister, Linda Cappel and husband George (Chip) of Bridge City; sister-in-laws, Vallie Carrico of Dubach, La., and Faye Carrico of White House, Tx.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert B. Carrico and Virgie Carrico; infant son, Perry Smith; brothers, Stanley Carrico, Laverette Carrico; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith.

John Henry, “the boys”, and their families would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to “Aunt Linda” Cappel. Words can’t express our gratitude for your unwavering, sacrificial loving care given to your big sister, Shirley. We could not have made this journey without you. We are forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Winfree Baptist Church Building Fund, 19525 Highway 62 S, Orange, Texas 77630.

Arrangements were held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
