Robert Marion Spence, 77, of Nichols Creek, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 7, 1936 in Everett, WA., to  Clifford Spence and Julia Fitzgerald.

He worked, and retired as a pipefitter at the Equistar Refinery in Port Arthur. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War.

Robert lived in Nichols Creek since 2006, and had previously lived for many years in Port Arthur. He enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables, fishing, collecting rare coins, and he loved spending time with his family, and especially his dogs.

Robert is preceded in death by his mother and step father, Julia Fitzgerald Primeaux and Theodis Primeaux; father and stepmother, Clifford Spence and Ester Spence; first wife, Joyce Spence; son, James “Jimmy” Spence, and daughter, Julie Duncan.

Those who will most cherish his memory are his wife, LaVan Spence of Nichols Creek; daughters, Mary Kile of Port Orchard, WA; sons, Robert L. Spence of Nichols Creek, William Spence, and Bradley Spence, both of Port Arthur; stepdaughters, Mary Diaz ,and husband, Jerry, Valerie Hathaway and Keisha Moles; half brother, Tommy Primeaux of Tomball; grandchildren, Robert P. Spence, Christin Spence, Aimie and Ashley Kile, Michelle and Nicole Osmer, Jake and Dora Duncan, Amber and Harley Spence, and Danielle and Casey Diaz, Kaleb and Joseph Moles, and 10 great grandchildren.

A gathering of Robert’s family and friends, for a time of remembrance and reflection, will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, Aug. 18,  at the Spence family residence, 2613 County Road 4122 in Nichols Creek. Please call 409-994-4951 for further information.
