LCJH cheerleaders take home honors from nat’l camp
The Little Cypress Junior High cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleaders Association Camp at Stephen F. Austin University this summer and walked away as the top award winners. Teams of cheerleaders from school throughout the state learned stunts, cheers, and chants. The teams then competed with the material they had learned.
Awards garnered by the LCJH team include “Performance Top Team,” which includes both high school and middle school; the “Spirit Award,” given to the one team with the most genuine spirit; the “Herkie Team Plaque,” awarded to the team with qualities such as leadership and teamwork; “First in Champion Chant” for middle school; “Spirit Stick” on all three days; a bid to Nationals; and a “Stunt, Herkie, and Tumbling Award” during evaluations.
The entire team, cheerleaders and mascots, were nominated for All American. The “Most Spirited Mascot Award” went to Jayce Perry and the “Mascot Leadership Award” was won by Meg Clark. Mallory Lisle was named one of three All-Americans for the entire camp. Eve Reeves is the squad’s coach.
