Schedule changes, packing lunches, and the end of summer is what is in store for students and parents as the start of school quickly approaches on August 26.

For some local schools, the summer break was a chance to make some necessary changes for the 2013-14 school year.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD will have a few changes in administrators during the 2013-2014 school year. The year will begin with Patti Steele and Jason Yeaman in assistant principal roles at Little Cypress Elementary and Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School, respectively.

Patti Steele has taught at Mauriceville Elementary and served as the math acceleration teacher at Little Cypress Intermediate.

“I am a proud educator in the LCM family,” she said.

Steele is beginning her nineteenth year in education, with sixteen of those being with LCM CISD.

Jason Yeaman is a Bridge City High School graduate who received both his undergraduate and Master Degrees at Lamar University. His nine years in the classroom include service at Bridge City, Nederland, Orangefield and LCM districts, and one year as assistant principal at Orangefield Junior High.

There will be several personnel changes at the beginning of the second semester, following the retirement of Kathy Finch, Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction. Finch, housed in the district’s central office, will be followed by Julia Dickerson, currently principal at Little Cypress Intermediate.

Michael Ridout, who is the assistant principal over the Ninth Grade Academy at LCM HS, will move to LCI as principal. His successor will be Ryan DuBose, science teacher and coach at LCM HS.

Julia Dickerson, who is not only student-taught at LCM, but has been with the district for twenty years. She taught first and third grades and first grade PLUS at LCE. She was the assistant principal there for five years, and has served as principal at Little Cypress Intermediate, the fourth and fifth grade campus, for the past five years.

Michael Ridout will move to Little Cypress Intermediate School in January 2014. Mr. Ridout is starting his thirteenth year in the LCM school district. During the past five years, he has served as assistant principal over the Ninth Grade Academy on the high school campus.

“I have spent my entire career in youth ministry and education and feel honored to be a part of the lives of the children in our district,” Ridout said.

Ryan DuBose is beginning his fourth year at LCM HS and his fourth in education. He has coached football, girls’ basketball, and track. DuBose was freshman football head coach for two years and varsity receivers coach for the last two. In the classroom, he taught physics, integrated physics, chemistry, and biology. He is a two-time teacher of the year nominee and has a Bachelor in biology with a minor in chemistry and a Masters in business administration – finance.

Little Cypress Intermediate will hold Meet the Teacher for all students on Aug. 21 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Little Cypress Elementary, Mauriceville Elementary, Mauriceville Middle, and Little Cypress Junior High will hold their Orientations and Meet the Teacher events on Aug. 22.

Mauriceville Middle School parents can pick up their students’ schedules at 3 p.m. on August 22, and students and parents will follow a short bell period to meet all of the students’ teachers from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Mauriceville Elementary will host a combined Meet the Teacher and Parent Orientation from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday Aug. 22. The event begins with a brief welcome at 5 p.m. in the MMS gym. Rosters will be posted at 5 p.m. near each grade level. At that time, parents and students will be released to go to their new teachers classrooms.There will be three sessions of Meet the Teacher and Parent Orientation to accommodate parents with multiple students. The first session will begin at 5:05 p.m., the second session at 5:30 p.m., and the final session at 5:55 p.m.

Little Cypress Elementary will combine the annual Meet the Teacher and Parent Orientation from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. Information on the Title Program will be presented in the cafeteria beginning at 5 p.m. Parents of students in the PLUS Program are invited to attend an informational meeting held in the library that will also begin at 5 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., parents and students will visit their teacher’s classroom. Rosters will be posted near each grade level hallway and two sessions of Meet the Teacher and Parent Orientation will be offered to accommodate parents with students in multiple schools. The first session will begin at 5:45 p.m. and the second at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions will cover the same information, so parents may select the one that best fits their schedules. Please use the rear parking lot and enter the building from the back to alleviate traffic congestion in the front of the  building. If you have questions, call the school at 886-2838.

Little Cypress Junior High will also have Meet the Teacher and Parent Orientation on Thursday August 22. Sixth Graders and their parents will meet in the cafeteria at 2 p.m. for orientation and all other students, in grade seven and eight, may pick up their schedules in the cafeteria at 2:30 p.m. There will be a football meeting in the boys gym at 3:30 p.m.

Following the first day of school on Monday, the LC-M bears will host the West Orange-Stark mustangs during a football game at 7:30 p.m.
