Police investigating theft from WO-C Elementary School

Monday, Sept. 9, Officer Dempsey responded to a call at West Orange Cove Elementary School, at 2605 MLK Jr. Drive in Pinehurst, in reference to a theft of copper wire.

School officials discovered that the chain on a gate housing air conditioning chiller units had been cut, and approximately 250 feet of copper wire had been removed from two units. This resulted in a failure of the units throughout the entire school, and $1045 in damage to school property.

The Pinehurst Police Dept. has two persons of interest in the crime, but is asking that anyone with information pertaining to the theft please contact them at 886-2221.

Theft of copper wire is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in state jail, and a $10,000 fine.
