Early morning crash kills two, injures two

At approximately 4:00 am, Wednesday, Sept. 18, there was a two vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of IH-10 at mile marker 841, in Jefferson County.

A 2007 International truck tractor was traveling westbound in the outside (slow) lane in front of a 2013 Toyota passenger vehicle. The driver of the Toyota drove into the back of the moving truck tractor.

According to Trooper Stephanie Davis, with the Texas DPS, the driver of the Toyota is a 21 year old male from San Antonio, who was in surgery at St. Elizabeth hospital this morning. The driver of the truck tractor is a 57 year old male, and is under medical observation at St. Elizabeth hospital.

The two passengers in the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Chesson. One of the deceased victims is a 24 year old female from Austin, and the second deceased victim is a 57 year old male from San Antonio. At this time, the names of all the occupants are not being released by DPS.

Trooper Davis does not suspect intoxication, but believes the driver was asleep at the wheel. An investigation is being conducted, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
