OC Sheriff’s Citizens Alumni to hold fundraisers
It will be “boots on the ground” as members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Citizens Alumni Association gear up for their upcoming fundraisers.
Few people realize what services are provided by the alumni members. The Blue Santa program provides toys to the local needy children and has continued to grow over the years. This program will kick off soon and they are already making plans for a shopping day before they can start bagging the toys for distribution.
Another program which requires a lot of hard work and dedication is the Cops and Kids Annual picnic during the summer months. At this event, they help serve the food, manage some of the events and assist where needed.
But, the alumni doesn’t stop there with all their efforts. They do finger printing at schools, health fairs and at the library. There are also plans to meet with a local Girl Scout troop to discuss “Stranger Danger.”
In the past they have held classes for the Star Cart program which teaches high school students about the dangers of drunk driving.
Alumni members also assist at other events such as the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo, Orange Boat Shows, the Lion’s Carnival, the Orange Easter Egg Hunt, at the bass tournament and many more. In addition, the alumni provides an annual luncheon for seniors who are on the welfare check list.
To help raise money for much needed equipment to continue their efforts, they are holding fundraisers. The first one is a raffle. Tickets are $1 each. The prizes are an Apple Ipod mini, adirondack furniture, a Bushnell Sportsman Scope and a Garmin eTrex 20. The drawing will be Oct. 24. There may be added prizes before the drawing is conducted.
To purchase tickets or to make a donation contact Linda at 409-880-6356.
On Oct. 10, there will be a barbecue lunch served for $6. The dinner will consists of a chicken leg quarter, delicious baked beans, potato salad, bread and a dessert. People are invited to dine in at the Life Center at North Orange Baptist Church located at 4775 16th Street. Take out orders are also available. There is delivery available on orders of five or more meals.
For questions or to place an order contact John Badeaux at 409-233-9271 or Johnnie Smith at 409-670-3455.
The alumni is looking to increase their membership as well. For more information contact Badeaux and he said he will be more than happy to assist.
