Evelyn C. “Jay” Steiner died Oct. 3,  at The Meadows in Orange.

She was born Feb. 9, 1922 in Bellevue, La. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Jessica (Aiken) Cullum; husband, Terrell M. Steiner; and son, Larry Steiner.

She is survived by her son, Glen Steiner and wife, Sandy of Orange; daughter-in-law, Eileen Koenig of Freeport; grandchildren, Terrell Steiner and wife, Ashley of Orange, Lisa Turner of Orange, Michael Koenig and wife Lisa of Harper; great-grandchildren, Ava and Lawrence Steiner, Shelby and Callie Koenig; brother, Winston Cullum of Houston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She retired in 1986 after a 40 year career in nursing. Her career began in Alabama and she served as Operating Room Supervisor and Director of Nurses at Dow Hospital in Brazosport. She retired from the state of Louisiana having also worked at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. She was a member of Community Church in Orange.

She cared for people her entire life, and deeply loved her son and grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Restwood Memorial Park in Lake Jackson,  with Kenneth A. Petro of Frankston, officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
