A five year old Vidor boy died Monday, Oct. 21, as a result of a suspected self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Officers with the OCSO responded to a call in the 1200 block of Scott Dr., in Vidor regarding an unresponsive child.

The child was left with a babysitter at the child’s home, in the 1200 block of Roberts Rd., just one street over from Scott Dr. The babysitter heard a noise in another room of the residence, and discovered the child with the injury.

There was no phone access available at the residence, so the babysitter carried the child to the child’s grandparent’s address on Scott Dr., where emergency personnel were contacted.

Justice of the Peace, Pct. 4 Judge Price was summoned to the scene, and has ordered an autopsy.

The preliminary investigation appears to be that the shooting was accidental. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
