Pauline Shafer Evans

Pauline Castleberry Shafer Evans went to be with her Lord on November 19, 2013 in Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, after a short illness.

She was born July 11, 1920 to William Taylor and Elizabeth Ann Johnson Castleberry of Nacogdoches County Texas and was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

She married Lawrence (Larry) Orin Shafer on June 16, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She received her Master’s Degree from Northwestern University in Chicago and taught algebra and geometry for many years in Chicago, Illinois and in St. Louis, Missouri.

Pauline was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star After the death of her husband Larry Shafer in 1988, Pauline married Kenneth Evans who had lost his wife a few years before.

Pauline and Larry had been close friends with Ken and his wife Ruth, for many years.

Ken, a shop teacher, taught in the Affton Missouri School District with Pauline.

After they both retired they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas where they worked with Steven Ministries for a number of years.

In 2000 Ken and Pauline moved to McPherson, Kansas where Ken passed away in February of 2013.

In October of 2013 Pauline moved to Orange, Texas to be near her only remaining family members Pauline was a true servant, interested in God's work.

Pauline is survived by two nephews, Billy Castleberry (Claudia) of Huntington, Texas and John Castleberry of Grand Prairie, Texas; two nieces, Patricia Castleberry Wagnon (Joel) of Orange and Lois G. Castleberry Jones of El Campo Texas; one step-daughter Denise Evans Schectman (Hal) of Palo Alto, California; two step-grandchildren, Jon and Emma Schectman; seven great nieces and great nephews and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m.

followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m.

on Friday, November 22, 2013, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Officiating will be Reverend John Bickham, associate pastor of First Baptist Church in Orange.

Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Orange.
