Deacon Emeritus Nelson Collins Sr.
The Celebration of Life for Deacon Emeritus Nelson Collins Sr., 80, of Orange, will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Rites of Christian Burial will follow in Hollywood Community Cemetery under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., Saturday, at the church. He died Nov. 30, 2013 at Memorial Herman Baptist Beaumont Hospital. A native of Winnsboro, La., he resided in Orange since 1953. He retired from the Street Department of the City of Orange after 30 years of service.
He was Deacon Emeritus at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He also served as President of the Male Chorus, Sunday School Superintendent and Chairman of the Deacon Board.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Collins of Orange; three sons, Nelson Collins Jr. of Orange, Michael Collins of Beaumont and Craig Breaux of Orange; seven daughters, Helen Williams of Columbus, Ohio, Elizabeth Brown, Jennifer Brown, Windy Brackens, and Shanell Wiley, all of Orange, and Minnie Ware and Dianna McCollister, both of Houston; 33 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
