Gertrude H. “Trudy” Peveto was born Jan. 13, 1930, in York, Me., to Robert and Eva Silsby. She passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, in Beaumont.

Trudy grew up in Kittery, Me, where her father was a commercial fisherman. During World War II she met Wayne Peveto while he was stationed at the nearby Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. They married, and after his service in the Navy ended, they moved to his family home of Mauriceville, where they lived for more than 60 years.

Trudy worked tirelessly as an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mauriceville and was known to generations of children as a devoted nursery attendant, pre-school teacher and daycare employee.

She is missed deeply by her husband of more than six decades, Wayne Peveto; children, Coleman and wife Linda of Mauriceville, Coleen Owens and husband Aaron of Rosenberg, Steven and wife Renee of Mauriceville, Alan and wife Marilyn of Buna, and Melissa Mulholland and husband Brett of Bridge City; 10 grandchildren, who often called her “Granny Trudy”; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 15, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 p.m., at Claybar Funeral Home, in Orange. Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the First Baptist Church of Mauriceville. Burial will follow at Bland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Bruce Peveto, Scott Peveto, Michael Owens, Kyle Peveto, Patrick Owens, and great-grandson Casey Peveto.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to First Baptist Church of Mauriceville, 11540 Highway 12, Mauriceville, Texas 77632.
