John Mathis Cabiness, 80, of Orange passed away on Friday, Dec. 13, at his residence.

John was born Dec. 16, 1932 in Carrollton, Al. to the late Frances (Nicholson) Cabiness and Mathus Swint Cabiness. He lived 50 years in the Orange area, and prior in the Lake Charles area. He served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict; and retired from the grocery business in 1995 after many years of employment as a butcher. He liked to fish, work on small engines, and spending time with his family. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and four brothers.

John is survived by his wife, Rachel Louise (Wardell) Cabiness of Orange; sons, James Cabiness and wife, Jamie of Orange, Doug Cabiness and wife, Stacey of Orange; daughters, Mary Quebodeaux and Elnora Barker both of Deweyville, eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles Cabiness and Buddy Cabiness of Pickens County, Al.

Cremation was entrusted to, and handled by Dorman Funeral Home.
