Jerry Lynn Zylks, 72, of West Orange, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, at his home.

Born Aug. 18, 1941 in Atlanta, Tx., to Sam G. Zylks, Jr. and Katie (Alexander) Zylks, he lived in the Orange area for the last 35 years, and had previously lived in Atlanta. He worshipped as a member of the Orange Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Jerry worked as a maintenance and repair worker at the Inland-Orange Paper Mill, and served his country as a veteran of the United States Army.

Jerry will be remembered as a good husband, father and grandfather. He was a very strong man, who enjoyed building things. He was very dependable, enjoyed hunting, being in the outdoors, and teasing those he loved. Although much in Jerry’s life was important, his love for his family was very dear and important to him.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and numerous members of his extended family.

Those who will most cherish his memory, are his loving wife of 42 years, Linda Zylks of West Orange; daughters, Stacie Zylks of Vidor, Shannon Stutler and husband, Shane of Mauriceville, Michael Annette “ Mickey ” Cash and husband, Terry of Bossier City, La, Lisa Jester and husband, Hugh of Atlanta, Christina Zylks of West Orange and Haley Degay and husband, Greg of Orange; sons, Scott Zylks and wife, Dana of Charlotte, SC, and Justin Zylks of Orange; brother, Mike Zylks and wife, Sandra of Orange; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and numerous extended family.

Services to honor and remember Jerry’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange, with Bishop Billy Blakeney, officiating. A gathering of Jerry’s family and friends for a time of reflection will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.Monday at the funeral home. Graveside services and Interment will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Slaughter Cemetery in Rodessa, La.
