Vernon Williams Sr., 71, of Orange, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, at his residence.

Born in Buna, on May 12, 1942, Vernon was the son of Chris and Ethel (Sheppard) Williams. He was assistant police chief for the city of Pinehurst, and later worked for Welch’s and Ferrell LP Gas. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 48 years, Faye Williams, and his sister Christine Paine.

Vernon is survived by his son, Tommy Williams and wife Liz of Orange; grandchildren, Cody Williams and wife Brooke of Fort Bragg, NC, Shelby Williams of Orange; step grandchildren, Jordon Briley, Lindsey Perkins both of Orange; great-grandson Gavin Williams of Fort Bragg, NC; sisters Marjorie Pennington of Victoria and Jean Seaman of Buna; brother and sister-in-law Gary and Susan Holmes of Colmesneil; numerous nieces and nephews and various other family members.

Cremation was held under the direction of Claybar Haven of Rest Crematory.
