James Ernest Chandler, 88, from Orangefield, died March 26, at the Meadows.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday March 29, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Officiating will be the Rev. Bobby Granger. Burial will take place at Mary Williams Cemetery in Orangefield.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

James was born in Terry on January 21, 1926 and was the son of William Lomas “Pop” Chandler and Agnes Mary Williams Chandler. He served in the Navy during World War II, and then became a Math teacher at Orangefield High School for 30 years. James is also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bridge City and part of the American Legion Post 250. He worked the clock at every football game and also drove the bus for the football team for away games. James also had a strong passion for animals.

He is preceded in death by his parents, niece Kathy Nuckols, brother Gerald Chandler and brother-in-law Claude Wilson.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria Walles Chandler, of Orangefield; sisters, Marilyn Chandler Cotton and husband Bennie of Orangefield, June Chandler Wilson, of Beaumont, Cherry Chandler Scales and husband Royce, of Orangefield; sister-in-law, Betty Horn Chandler; and his numerous nieces and nephews.
