Lamar Theatre will present Neil Simon’s popular musical “Sweet Charity”April 10-13 in the University Theatre. Originally directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse, the Tony-award winning musical tells the story of Charity Hope Valentine, a dance-hall hostess with a heart of gold and a past littered with bad relationships.

“Sweet Charity” premiered on Broadway in 1966 and contains popular musical numbers such as “Hey, Big Spender”and “If My Friends Could See Me Now.” The production won the Tony Award for Best Choreography.

Lamar’s production is directed by Deena Conley, chair of the Department of Theatre & Dance and professor of acting and directing.

“Sweet Charity is a musical comedy that I think audiences will really respond to and love,” said Conley. “It’s big, brash and stylized and has some great musical numbers. It’s Fosse, so there are many opportunities for dance, and we’re able to utilize both our actors and our dancers from the Department of Theatre & Dance.”

Chloe Sullivan of Kountze stars in the role of Charity. The cast also features Hannah Barker, Beaumont; Aaron Michael Chang, Groves; Charles Collins, Kansas City, Kansas; Danny Grigsby, Houston; Baylie Fox- Lumberton; Shaudae Leftwich, Houston; Aaron McClendon, Kirbyville; Lexi McDonald, Cedar Park; Kierra McKay, Pearland; Luke Meyer, Wylie; Matthew Phillips, Nome; Tim Rodriguez, Port Arthur; Chaz Romero, Orange; Natalie Sell, Spring; and Evan Weathington, Beaumont.
