Mrs. Annie Rebecca Winkel

Mrs. Annie Rebecca Winkel, 94, of Orange, passed from this life on Saturday, April 26, at Oakwood Manor in Vidor.

Born on Oct. 14, 1919 in Spurger, to Van Means and Lillie Mae (Crain) Means, she was a longtime resident of Orange. She lived in Napa, Ca. for 11 years. She was a member of the Winfree Baptist Church in Orange, and a homemaker. Mrs. Winkel will be remembered for her cooking of chicken pot pie, chocolate pie and chicken and dumplings. She will also be remembered for her care of others; her hospitality; her love for her family and friends, and her joy of going shopping.

Mrs. Winkel is preceded in death by her parents; husband, A. I. Winkel; grandson, Brent Duprie; son-in-law, Parker McCaleb, and brothers, Frank Means, Allen Means and John Willie Means.

Those who are left to cherish her legacy are her daughters, Pat McCaleb of Memphis, Tn, Barbara Wilson and husband, Virgil of Hemphill and Cornelia Duprie and husband, Lee Roy of Kirbyville; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Winkel is also survived by numerous members of her extended family and friends.

Services to honor and remember Mrs. Winkel's life will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 28, at the Winfree Baptist Church on Hwy. 62 in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. Keith Royal, pastor of the church. A gathering of Mrs. Winkel's family and friends will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Rite of committal and interment will be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday at the Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Honoring Mrs. Winkel as pallbearers will be Lee McCaleb, Jason Lingo, Brian Duprie, Brian Harmon, Jordan Harmon, Easton Lingo, Cole Duprie, Bryce Harmon and Evan Lingo. Honorary pallbearers are John Taylor, Tolliver Shults and numerous members of the Winfree Baptist Church.

The Winkel family wishes to extend a sincerest thanks to the staff of River City Hospice, and a very special thanks to the Staff of Oakwood Manor in Vidor for the loving care provided to Mrs. Winkel.

For those desiring to make memorial donations, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Mrs. Winkel to a charity of the donor's choice.
