Donna Zappa Broomes, 61, of Mauriceville, passed away on May 13, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. Delphyn Meeks of St. Maurice Catholic Church in Mauriceville. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Orange.

Visitation will be Monday May 19, from 5:00 -9:00 p.m. with a vigil held at 6:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home.

Born in Streator, Il., on Sept. 23, 1952, she was the daughter of John Phillip Zappa and Dorothy Bernice (Blackmon) Zappa. Donna retired from Bridge City Junior High School where she was a special education teacher. At the time of her death she was working as a field supervisor for the Ace Program at Lamar State College in Orange. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, participated in “Adopt a Platoon”, and was working on self-publishing a novel. Donna enjoyed quilting, sewing, and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and son, Eric Broomes.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Broomes of Mauriceville; son, Doug Broomes and wife Tracy of Weatherford; daughters, Christine Neie and husband Gary of Kingwood, Megan Dunbar and Cory Witham of Orange, Jenna Seeney and husband Chris of Mauriceville; grandchildren, Emily Neie, Dillon Neie, Jacob Broomes, Ethan Broomes, Reagan Broomes, Layne Dunbar, Trent Dunbar, Liliana Dunbar, Kaleigh Dunbar, Brooklynn Seeney, and Dwain Seeney; sisters, Becky Zappa of Carrolton, and Carol Anderson and husband Dwight of Plainfield, Il., and brother, John Zappa of Mauriceville.

Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Broomes, Gary Neie, Dillon Neie, Chris Seeney, John Zappa, and Mike Alexander. Honorary pallbearers are Cory Witham, Hal Broomes, and Dwight Anderson.
