James Paul Permenter, 78, of Orange, passed away on May 19, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Bro. Jay Thomas of MacArthur Heights Baptist Church in Orange. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Huxley, on May 27, 1935, he was the son of George Buford Permenter and Ruthie Mae (Oswalt) Vaughn.

Paul was a boilermaker by trade and was member of Local 587.

He was extremely hardworking and was a good supervisor.

During his years of working, he was able to travel the world working in many different places such as St. Croix, Japan, Suriname, Scotland, and Singapore.

Paul truly enjoyed farming, fabricating, fishing, hunting, and anything outdoors.

Westerns were Paul’s favorite genre of movies, he was a real prankster, and had nicknames for everyone.

He was also a member of MacArthur Heights Baptist Church.

Paul enjoyed many things in life, but what he enjoyed most of all was his grandkids and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruthie Vaughn and step-father, T.C. Vaughn; father, George Buford Permenter; and wife, Reba Faye Permenter.

He is survived by his fiancé, Jean Stidham of Orange; daughters, Paula Williams and husband, Damian of New Braunfels, Dana Perales and husband, Robert of Orange, Shelley Manning and husband, Douglas of Orange; grandchildren, Nicole (Colee) Pickett, Paige Perales, Shelby Perales, Shante Williams, Robert Manning, Mason Manning, and Maya Manning.

Serving as pallbearers will be Clay Vaughn, Keith Oswalt, Randy Oswalt, Joe Stidham, Tyler Schroeder, Garrett Schroeder, Jeff Lummus and Scott Peveto. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Schroeder and Steve Oswalt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MacArthur Heights Baptist Church at 3502 Nightingale St. Orange, Texas 77630 or to the National Kidney Foundation at 30 East 33rd St. New York, NY 10016.
