Jamie Lenora Fletcher, 85, of Orange, passed away peacefully on June 11,, with family at her side, at her home.

Jamie was born to James and Lenora Smith on March 13, 1929, in Swartz, La, in the back room of her grandmother’s home. She started at a very early age playing the piano at the First Baptist Church in Swartz, where she played until she went to Pineville College in Pineville, La. Jamie’s love of music remained a source of enjoyment throughout her life.

After attending Pineville College she went on to attend nursing training in New Orleans where she interned and grew to love pediatric nursing. Jamie also enjoyed gardening and having a beautiful yard. In spring her yard was in full bloom with azaleas, bridle wreath and saucer magnolias.

Jamie is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, R.C. Fletcher; daughter Sherry Coward, and husband Jeff; daughter Terry Fortenberry and husband Buddy; son Brent Newberry and wife Kay; and step-son Ricky Fletcher. She will be missed by eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

On behalf of mother’s entire family, we want to sincerely thank The Oaks Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care.

A memorial visitation service will be held Thursday, June 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, in Orange.
