An Orange man was arrested early Saturday, July 5, after an incident with a rifle in the area of Hwy. 62 and IH-10. Police responded to the McDonald's in the 2300 block of Hwy. 62, in reference to a subject believed to be carrying a rifle.

Witnesses gave police a description of the man, and dispatch later advised officers that the suspect had fired three rounds from the weapon. Witnesses also said that the man had been seen behind Comfort Inn, also in the 2300 block of Hwy. 62.

Police began searching the area, and it was determined that he had left the immediate area on a bicycle to the area of Happy Home Dr. Orange County deputies advised that they had located the 39 year old Chauncey David Miller, at a residence in the 300 block of Happy Home Dr., where the weapon was also found.

Miller was charged with deadly conduct, a third degree felony, and is being held in the Orange County Jail.

The investigation is on-going and being handled by the Orange Police detective division. Orange Police officers were assisted at the scene by officers from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and the Pinehurst Police Department.
