Athalene Brown Manchac, 88, of West Orange, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 16, at her residence.

Born Sept. 22, 1925 in Brownsboro, to William Brown and Lela S. (Barton) Brown, she came to Orange during World War II to work in the shipbuilding industry. She also worked with her husband at Manchac Insurance Agency in Orange; and she owned and operated the West Orange Nursery for many years. Athalene was a member of the Harvest Chapel Church in West Orange, was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Athalene is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank D. Manchac, Sr.; sons, Frank D. Manchac, Jr. and Mark Manchac, and her grandson, William Manchac.
Those who will most cherish her memory are her daughter, Margaret Boehme and husband, Robert of Orange; grandchildren, Charles Cloudy and wife, Roxanne, Colleen Cloudy, Karen Manchac, Stephen Manchac, Michael Manchac, Kelly Manchac and Brandy Quebodeaux; great grandchildren, Layla, Lillian, Jacob, Michaela, Dorian, Mason, Addison, Bailey, and Jeslyn and Elly. Athalene is also survived by numerous members of her extended family.
Graveside services to honor Athalene’s life will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 18, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, near Bridge City with Sister Ruth Logan Burch, officiating. A gathering of Athalene’s family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Dorman Funeral Home in Orange.
