Eston “Slim” Hawthorn

Eston “Slim” Hawthorn, 87, of Groves passed away Friday, Aug. 22, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, Aug. 25, at Winfree Baptist Church in Orange, with Pastor Keith Royal officiating. A graveside service will be at Zion Hill Cemetery in Jasper at 1:30 p.m.

A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Roganville, on Feb. 1, 1927, “Slim” was the son of Sion and Mittie Gertrude (Turner) Hawthorn. He served honorably in the United States Army, later retired from Fina as a supervisor after 38 years, volunteered for the Bridge City Fire Department for 13 years, and was a member of Winfree Baptist Church, where he sang in the Senior Choir. “Slim” often enjoyed fishing on the lake, hunting at the deer camp or gardening. He was a very skilled and talented master mechanic, plumber, carpenter, electrician and could fix anything.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ose Lee (Weatherford) Hawthorn, and 11 siblings.

“Slim” is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Billy Walsh; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas Eston and Leslia Hawthorn and William and Teresa Hawthorn; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and his best friend and companion, Bridgette LeBlanc and her extended family.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Ellison, Tanner Ross, Phil Schaefer, Gene Richey, Shane Hawthorn and Howard LeBlanc. Susan LeBlanc will be an honorary pallbearer.
