Rare books on display at Stark Museum

Last updated 9/9/2014 at Noon

The Stark Museum of Art will exhibit three rare books, showing the work of women who avidly studied flowers and other plants, and excelled in flower painting and plant illustration.

The artists, Elizabeth Blackwell, Henriette Antoinette Vincent, and Mary Vaux Walcott, made important contributions to nature studies. Each artist's work presents an example of a popular flowering plant.

The iris, narcissus, and pitcher plant are plants that other flower painters often portray, and depictions of these plants can be seen on pottery decoration.

The exhibit will be on display through Oct. 4 at the museum. The Stark Museum of Art is located at 712 green Ave., Orange. For information, please visit http://www.starkmuseum.org, or email [email protected].
