Lutcher presents "Nice Work If You Can Get It"

“Broadway’s Hilarious New Musical Comedy,” Nice Work If You Can Get It, is slated to play the Lutcher Theater Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 6:00 PM. Tickets ranging from $35-$65 are on sale now at www.lutcher.org, or by calling the Lutcher Box Office at 886-5535.

It's the Roaring Twenties and a cast of outrageous characters gathers in New York to celebrate the wedding of wealthy playboy Jimmy Winter. But things don't go as planned when the playboy meets Billie Bendix, a bubbly and feisty bootlegger who melts his heart. The champagne flows and the gin fizzes in the hilarious, Tony®-winning musical comedy.

This brand-new musical features a treasure trove of George and Ira Gershwin’s most beloved, instantly recognizable tunes set in a fresh and funny song-and-dance spectacular with a book by Tony® winner Joe DiPietro (Memphis) and direction and choreography by three-time Tony® winner Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes).

Nice Work If You Can Get It, which played a total of 478 performances during its 2012-2013 Broadway run, is filled to the brim with classic songs, including “But Not For Me,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “I’ve Got a Crush on You” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.” This sparkling, madcap tale combines laughter, romance and high-stepping Broadway magic for an evening bursting with girls, glamour and the glorious songs of Gershwin!

Area residents are also invited to attend Lunchin’ With the Lutcher, a brown bag lunch event, featuring Matthew Taylor, Thursday,Oct. 2, from noon to 12:45 PM on the Lutcher Theater 3rd Floor Lobby.

A native of Nederland, TX, Mr. Taylor is slated to perform the role of Sky Masterson later this season in the national tour of Guys and Dolls.

Mr. Taylor will acquaint the audience with Broadway’s hilarious new musical comedy, “Nice Work If You Can Get It” by sharing plot and character highlights, along with intriguing historical context of the show’s captivating musical score, the work of George and Ira Gershwin.

He will also enlighten attendees about a career in professional theater, which is “nice work if you can get it.”

Attendees may bring their lunches or order lunch, provided by Shangri-La Botanical Gardens Star and Crescent Moon Café. A turkey sandwich or vegetable wrap is available for $10 (cash only) payable at the time of the event.
