Another project funded by the 2013 Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bond Election broke ground on construction today. At Little Cypress Junior High, several community members were on hand for the ceremony, as well as school officials, board members, Bond Committee members and students.

The LCJH Symphonic Band, under the direction of Jose Ochoa, entertained the attendees. The band program is one of the groups in temporary quarters, since the building that housed them will be the first to come down in the construction process.

Principal Mitzi Conn welcomed the group and talked about the advantages of a 21st Century campus. Dr. Hargrove, Superintendent, talked about the importance of the new building for the students of LCJH, and Assistant Superintendent Greg Perry spoke about the plan of action for the campus project.

The plan is for demolition of the 100 building (the one that faces FM 1130) to begin later this week. The new building will go up in the open area between the existing campus and the cafeteria. The renovated cafeteria and Bates Gym will be attached to the new structure, providing, as stated by Principal Mitzi Conn, “…a more secure environment.” Students and staff also will not have to go out into the rain when traveling from the main campus to the cafeteria or gym.
