Joyce Smith Wallace, 77, of Nederland, died Monday, Nov. 3, at Harbor Hospice House, Beaumont.

She was born July 6, 1937, in Wells, TX, to David Vernon and Ruth Smith. Joyce worked at the candy counter in the old Sears store in Port Arthur but her greatest accomplishment was devoted wife and mother. She was an active member of the Procter Baptist Church and was faithful to the ladies prayer group. Joyce taught Sunday school for the Friendship Class, which she served as the secretary and helped with the food pantry and VBS. She was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Leader years ago. She loved playing Bunko with her Bunko friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Tonja Wallace Hurt and her husband, Robert, of Nederland; grandchildren, Krystal Hurt of Nederland and her fiancé Kristian Barnard of Beaumont and Matthew Hurt of Nederland; special niece, Sandra Thornton Martin of Mauriceville; many other loving family members and friends; and loving care giver, Stella Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, George David Wallace.

A gathering of Mrs. Wallace’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 8, at Broussard’s, Nederland, with interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.

The family would like to express their appreciation to her hospice nurse Kathy and the Harbor Hospice House for their loving care

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Wallace’s memory to Procter Baptist Church, 4401 Jimmy Johnson Boulevard, Port Arthur, Texas 77642.
