Orange County Health Inspector James Scales made the following inspections on area businesses from Oct. 16 through Oct. 31:

Vidor Jr. High School, 945 N. Tram Rd., Vidor – Score 100

Crystal Seafood, 1609 16th St., Orange – Need to date all foods in cooler/freezer; storing raw, cut onions in plastic grocery bag; seasoning bag found with mice feces on top, and evidence of mice eating outside of bag; mice feces found on floor; restaurant currently washing and storing dishes outside, advised owner all equipment must be washed and stored inside restaurant. Score – 86

Donut Palace, 190 W. Freeway, Vidor – Found sausage, boudoir and ham out of proper temperature; found employee bringing boxes of shelled, raw eggs out back door as soon as inspector entered store; need to cover all foods; reach-in cooler door has insulation exposed because door is broken and needs repair; dead roach found in storage room; inside/outside containers need to be cleaned of old foods; storage racks need to be repaired; air vents and returns need to be cleaned of built up dust. Score – 69

Orange Truck Stop, 333 Lutcher Dr., Orange – Pulled several expired foods from shelves; several dead roaches found throughout the store; live birds/feces found throughout the store; entire store needs to be cleaned; mold found inside ice machine; bird feces, trash and dirt on floors; mold found on drink dispensers. Will follow-up every day this week. Pest management to be called out for roaches and birds. Score – 87

Donut Nation, 18394 Hwy. 62 S., Orange – Found sausage and eggs at unsafe temperatures. Score – 95

Senor Toro Mexican Restaurant, 1298 N. Main St., Vidor – Cooling rice and taco meat on top of portable cart; front cooler holding water, needs to be repaired; mold/slime found inside ice machine, and vents and walls around fryers and grill need to be cleaned of old foods. Score – 89

Denny’s Restaurant, 7112 IH-10 W, Orange – Found mashed potato/pasta sauce at unsafe temperatures; employee drink w/o lid and straw; date all foods in cooler/freezer; several foods found sitting in water; need to cover all foods in freezer/cooler; several flies found throughout; mold and rust found on air vents; storage shelves, floors and equipment need to be cleaned and sanitized of old foods. Inspector will follow-up every day this week to check progress of restaurant. Need to discard all broken/unused equipment. Score – 73

A.R. and Sons Tamales, 123 Katherine St., West Orange – Score – 100

Guadalajara, 137 Strickland Dr., Orange – Found fajita beef/chicken out of proper temperature; employee drinks without lid/straw; need to date and cover all foods; employee cell phone found sitting on top of plates; dead roach and flies found; pipes at three compartment sink dripping water , need to repair; area around fryers and vents above grill need to be cleaned of old grease and storage shelves need toe cleaned of old food/dirt. Score – 74

Kotoyama, 2226 MacArthur Dr., Orange – Employee drinks without lid/straw; need to date all foods inside coolers and freezers; storing food on floor in walk-in freezer; storing food on floor in walk-in freezer; freezer door not closing completely, need to repair; mold was found on drink dispensers and floors; storage equipment advent system needs to be cleaned of old foods. Score – 82

Vidor Superette #1, 5645 N. Main St., Vidor – Pulled several expired (2013-2014) foods from shelves; towels needed inside restroom; several dead roaches found in back storage room; storage shelves need to be cleaned of old foods. Score – 87

Hushpuppy’s Seafood, 1202 N. Main St., Vidor – Cabbage/onions being stored outside on storage shelves; food being stored on floor of walk-in freezer; no hand washing sink available; several live/dead roaches found; flies and gnats found throughout; mold on walls near sinks; storage racks, floors, walls and outside of equipment needs to be cleaned of old foods; floor in walk-in cooler needs to be cleaned, and door needs to be repaired. Score – 83

Decent Store, 110 Texla Rd., Vidor – Store name needs to be on all bags of ice sold; date all foods in cooler; gasket needs to be replaced on cooler door; area around fryers, floors, inside walk-in cooler and storage shelves throughout need to be cleaned; light shields needed throughout store. Score – 86

Super Stop #2 In and Out, 100 W. Freeway, Vidor – Need to date all foods inside coolers; employee found using 5 gallon bucket to scoop ice out of ice machine; no dish sink available. Score – 89

Lone Star Grocery, 3665 N. Main St., Vidor – Need to date all foods inside cooler; pulled several expired foods from shelves; gaskets need to be repaired replaced on walk-in cooler doors; several dead roaches, spiders and worms found; mice feces found in storage room; mold found on slushi machine. Score – 80

Waffle House, 2310 Hwy. 62, Orange – Need to date all foods in cooler/freezer; raw beef being stored above raw shelled eggs and biscuits; several flies found throughout; mold was found inside ice machine; storage racks throughout are rusted and need to be repaired/replaced; found several clean dishes with old foods still on them, need to rewash; need to clean all storage shelves throughout. Score – 86

Church’s Chicken, 7409 IH-10 E, Orange – Employee drinks without lids/straws; brown lettuce found inside cooler; store improperly defrosting chicken strips on storage shelves; freezer door not closing completely, need to repair; mop sink not draining – currently using plunger to unstop; no certified food manager on staff; floors, walls and outside of equipment need to be cleaned/sanitized; all storage shelves inside walk-in cooler are rusted – need to repair. Score – 76

Pakco #1, 3031 Hwy. 12, Vidor – Store name and address are needed on all bags of ice sold at store; found bulging cans and expired (2013) foods; several dead mice found on sticky trap; no certified food manager on staff; floors vents and above fryers need to be cleaned of old foods/dirt. Score – 83

Star Stop #3, 1402 16th St., Orange – Store name and address are needed on all bags of ice sold at store; pulled several (2013-2014) expired foods from shelves; no hot water was found inside the public restroom; mold was found on slushi machines. Score – 85

Texas Gumbo Hut, 2822 Western Ave., Orange – Pre-opening inspection. No score.
