linkVelma Marie Dement, 82, of Mauriceville passed away Friday, Nov. 14, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.

She was born July 19, 1932 in Newton County, to Martha Vincent (Levine) and Jim Frank Hutson. She had lived in the Mauriceville area for the last 25 years, living prior in Hartburg. She was of the Pentecostal faith. Velma loved spending time with her family. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald W. Dement; sister, Dorothy Seaman; brothers, Willie Hutson, Leroy Hutson and Melvin Hutson, and grandsons, Ricky Powell and Bryan Powell.

Velma is survived by her daughters, Brenda Weeks and husband, Thomas of Buna, Vickie Powell and husband, J.E. of Mauriceville; grandchild, Michael Powell and wife, Pam; great grandchildren, Bryce Freeman, Kaylyn Powell, Laine Powell.

Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 17, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, at Dorman Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 10:00 am, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lee Everhart officiating. Burial will follow at Sycamore Cemetery in Burkeville.
