LU Hoopster Miles signs with pros

Anthony Miles (2008-12), a former standout for the Lamar Cardinals basketball team has signed a professional contract with Polpharma, a Polish professional team in Starogard Gdanski. Polpharma plays in the Dominet Bank Ekstraliga.

Miles averaged better than 15 points and five rebounds per game last season for Halychyna in the Ukranian Superleague. Miles’ professional career began in 2012 when he signed with the Rotterdam Challengers of the Dutch League. He played in 32 games leading the Chargers in scoring with nearly 19 points per game. An impact player in all phases of the game, Miles also averaged 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game during his rookie season. He went on to earn Eurobasket.com All-Dutch Eredivisie honorable mention honors and was named to the all-star team.

One of the school’s all-time leading scorers, Miles earned second-team All-Southland Conference honors in 2012, and finished his career as a member of the Cardinals’ 1,000-point club. Miles averaged nearly 12 points per game for Lamar during his four seasons in Beaumont. A long-range threat, Miles made 97 three-pointers during his career, while converting nearly 80 percent of his free throw attempts.

During his four seasons with Lamar, Miles scored 1,487 points and pulled down 530 rebounds. He was also credited with 400 assists and nearly 150 steals as a Cardinal.
