The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is expecting a cool New Year’s Day, with morning lows ranging from near freezing in east Texas and central Louisiana to around 40 along the I-10 corridor. Rain could develop in the afternoon, and highs will range from 45 to 55 F.

Rain and a few thunderstorms are forecast for Friday and Saturday. One to two inches of rain will fall in some places. There is also a small severe weather threat on Saturday. The threat will include tornadoes and hail, and will occur mainly east of a Beaumont to Alexandria line.

Cooler and drier weather is forecast for next week.
